Two more stations on the M3 metro line in the city centre will be opened in January. The colours and shapes that define the character of the stations were revealed in our December summary, and now the designers give us an insight into their inspiration and their interpretation of the graphic image and the added meaning of the shades.

On the underpass level of the reimagined station, the familiar orange colour of more than forty years preserves the memory of the past, but its lush shades suggest freshness. Descending the escalator, a whole new world of sights awaits. The designers have chosen colours and graphic motifs for the platform level in reference to the Franciscan order that gave its name to the urban square on the surface. The contrast between the subdued, slightly self-effacing brown and the brilliant gold defines the look. The raw steel columns further enrich the aesthetics of the space, while at the same time fitting in with the line's functionalist tradition. The paving of the track area is designed with a graphic image that relates to the movement that is at the heart of the station, at once abstract, airy and serene, yet subtly evocative of the legend of St Francis.

The designers of the station are Zsolt Kosztolányi and András Klopp, while Kamilla Réti and Boglárka Somogyi joined the design team to create the bird motif.
