Two new works of art are on display at the Dózsa György út metro station. Inspired by cartoon characters, a young artist, Daniel Labrosse, subtly and ironically alludes to everyday public transport and reconstruction.

Retrofitting barrier-free access work is currently underway at the Dózsa György út metro station. Large-scale works of art have been placed in the passenger areas on a surface that separates the area currently under reconstruction. The art project is supported by BKV Zrt. Metro Reconstruction Project Directorate and STRABAG Építőipari Zrt. as the contractor. Since 2009, the international STRABAG Kunstforum has been committed to supporting artists under 40 years of age in Hungary who work in the field of painting and individual graphics. The art experts of the organisation asked Daniel Labrosse to create the artworks for the reconstruction of metro line M3.

The artist admits that he is interested in the unique qualities and quirks of people, and that he finds inspiration in those he meets on Budapest's public transport. In his paintings, he depicts travel and reconstruction in an ordinary everyday life, with unordinary characters, all spiced up with colour and humour.

The aim of the project is to bring the metro reconstruction closer to the travelling public through artworks. The display of artworks in a public space, in a metro station, makes art accessible to all and can be enjoyed at any time, freeing it from the confines of exhibition spaces.
