The transformation of the downtown section of metro line M3 is becoming more and more spectacular, although demolition work is still underway, we can already find plenty of changed spaces and, in some places, new equipments as well. In the tunnel, the left track is being replaced, a varied image unfolds in front of us for six kilometers, there are still untouched areas. In some places the rails are missing, but in some cases the new rails have already been replaced. Sometimes we come across surprising memories, most recently recalling the past in connection with a poster.

In the tunnel, several work phases are performed simultaneously: from the cleaning and dismantling of the tracks to the laying and fixing of the new rails; and from measuring the cables to building a system of their trays.

Reconstruction is taking place at three different stages at the seven stations. Arany János utca and Ferenciek tere metro stations were closed for the first time more than a year ago. The construction of the new electrical network and mechanical wiring is slowly being completed, and in addition to structural construction, surface treatments are also being carried out.

At Corvin-negyed and Semmelweis Klinikák stations, modernization began last summer. The refurbishment of the facility areas for the mechanical systems and the delivery of new equipment is continous. Perhaps most conspicuous is the area of the escalators, where the installment of the incline elevators is being prepared. The structural parts of all these elevators waiting to be installed has already arrived in Hungary, and the delivery of the elements to the mentioned stations has also started.

Reconstruction works have been going on at Nyugati railway station, Deák Ferenc tér and Kálvin tér stations for half a year. The dismantling of escalators and the removal of elements in excess of several tonnes are still ongoing. The equipment, which has been serving for several decades without major breakdowns, is delivered to BKV Zrt's Kőér utca vehicle depot on the surface.

The barrier-free surface connection to Deák Ferenc tér metro station is being built in Erzsébet tér. The 23-meter long corridor connecting the platform to the elevator is slowly gaining its final shape.

Relics that were once thought to be forgotten also come to light from time to time during demolition works. We found a poster more than 40 years old in Deák Ferenc tér, which draws attention to the harmful effects of smoking. The announcement, which remained in surprisingly good condition, was protected by an extra wall that was once built in front of it.
